On Friday, September 16, 2016, the School of Nursing on the Worcester campus celebrated the White Coat Ceremony, welcoming 66 students into the December Class of 2017. Dean Eliadi presided over this prestigious event made possible by a grant from The Arnold P. Gold Foundation and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
Dean Eliadi highlighted the history of the White Coat as well as the traditional nurses capping ceremony. She encouraged students to wear their White Coat with pride and as a symbol of entry into the profession of nursing.
Trish Hannon, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer of New England Baptist Hospital and MCPHS Trustee, provided the keynote address. Ms. Hannon provided key insights into the profession of nursing with the focus on caring and compassion. Along with her keynote speech, Ms. Hannon coated her niece who is a member of the class of 2017.
The faculty presented students with their white coats. In the pocket of each students’ white coat was a card which included Words of Wisdom provided by the upperclassmen. These Words of Wisdom included words of encouragement and hints for success. The ceremony closed with the reading of the White Coat Ceremony Oath lead by Professor McGinty.
